Ellen Baer is an abstract painter based in Maryland, originally from Western New York. The dramatic weather and beauty of the surrounding landscapes from her childhood inspire much of her work. She expresses her joy in experiencing the brilliance of light and the power of nature with oil paint, watercolor, and wax. Her ongoing series about shale reflects upon her experiences playing in Eighteen Mile Creek, which flows through her hometown of Hamburg.
